African-American Donates to Primary School

An African-American, Nana Amo Kantinkran of the Black Information Television (BIT), a television station based in Wilmington, Detroit in the United States, Wednesday, this week presented an amount of $2,000, (about ?17 million) to the Hwediem Primary Junior Secondary Schools.

Making the presentation at a short ceremony at Hwidiem in Asante Akim, he said the gesture was in support of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s education drive.

According to Nana Kantinkran, who is also the Nkosuohene of Hwidiem and known in private life as James Carl Kennedy, the amount forms part of the first instalment of an earmarked $4,500 realised through the sale of recycled bottles and cans collected by children in Wilmington.

He said BIT organises for children in America to contribute their quota to assist needy African children.

Receiving the donation, the DCE, Mr. George Frimpong, thanked BIT for the gesture and called on the chiefs of the area to be accountable to the people and to develop a culture of maintenance for both private and public property.

At the same ceremony, a citizen of Hwidiem resident in Canada, Mr. Ampem Benson, also presented a computer to the Hwidiem JSS.

Present at the ceremony were the Krontihene of Hwidiem, the District Director of Education, Mr. Oppong Bediako-Poku, and the District GNAT Secretary, Mr. Ernest Yaw Kwakye.
