Africa lacks great leaders – Apostle Atta

General Overseer and Founder of Freedom Chapel, Apostle Amoako Atta says the actual purpose for the formation of the African Union (AU) has been misplaced due to the current breed of leadership in the continent.

Speaking in interview with Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, the man of God said, the late Nkrumah and his other colleagues were committed to helping bring about change and freedom to many African countries and restore dignity of African people.

However, Africa is poorer than the time the AU was formed. Apostle Amoako Atta questioned why the AU is stagnant and has not moved forward. There is disunity among ourselves, mistrust and lack of vision.

He quizzed, why has the AU not succeeded like the United States of America.

They have succeeded because they are united and came together as one body and now they are developed.

Why are we divided? Why are not succeeding? He urged African leaders to up their game because nothing is improved or corrected without leadership.

”The need for leadership in the 21st Century for Africa is hampering our development…We need leaders who can do achieve extra-ordinary things…Instead of Africa developing and moving forward, we are rather retrogressing. The problem of Africa today is not the ordinary people but the leaders. I am not saying we do not have good leaders but we are yet to find great leaders. The only great leaders we had were Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and Nelson Mandele.”

The African Union (AU) is a continental union consisting of all 55 countries on the African continent.

It was established on 26 May 2001 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and launched on 9 July 2002 in South Africa, with the aim of replacing the Organisation of African Unity (OAU).
