Deputy Minister of Transport, Daniel Titus-Glover, has revealed that the ferry at Afram Plains in the Eastern Region has finally been relocated to Yeji-Buipe in the Northern Region following the closure of the Yapei and Buipe bridges.
According to him, the captain of the ferry indicated that the property will spend few hours at Yeji-Buipe and then be sent back to its original place.
It is recalled that some residents of Afram Plains were set on a collision course with authorities of the Volta River Transport in disagreements over the relocation of the ferry.
The residents, who have vowed to resist the move, maintain the ferry is their only means of transportation through the Agordeke-Kpando-Torkor route.
It took the intervention of the police to stop scores of angry youth who had massed up at the offices of the Volta River Transport, from locking out officials.
But speaking in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of the Ghana Yensom show on Accra FM 100.5 he said that: after a meeting with authorities of the Volta Lake an agreement was reached that the ferry should be sent to Yeji and Buipe to help the situation there.
“The captain assured us that the ferry will spend just eight hours there and be brought back to Afram plains.”
