The proposed construction of the Kwahu Afram Plains bridge has sparked mixed reactions among residents. While some express confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s promise to deliver the project, others are skeptical due to past unfulfilled promises.
The bridge spanning approximately 3.6 kilometers across the Afram River, will be accompanied by around 100 kilometers of supporting road networks. The initiative aims to boost agricultural productivity as Afram Plains is known to be the food basket of the country, stimulate economic growth and also reduce poverty in the area
Some residents believe President Mahama will fulfill his promise, citing his commitment to the project whilst others are doubtful, referencing past promises that were not implemented.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kwahu Afram Plains South, Moses Tangmee, has assured residents that President Mahama is committed to completing the project. He stated that the government has secured funding, and the project is expected to enhance economic development, foster regional integration, and generate income through agriculture and other sectors.
The DCE also promised to take action against individuals from the previous government who allegedly diverted funds meant for the Afram River bridge project.
