“Afraid” aspirants speak of dynasty

Accra, Nov. 8, GNA – Mr. Adjaidu Amateifio, National Campaign Co-ordinator in charge of operation of the Kwame Addo-Kufuor Campaign, has stated that any aspirant seeking to be the flag bearer of the NPP who speaks about blood relation or dynasty in connection with his aspiration to take over from President John Agyekum Kufuor, his brother, was “just afraid of fair competition”.

Speaking to the GNA at the end of his working visit to constituencies in the Greater Accra Region, he said that in a dynasty positions were not contested but automatically taken over by the next “crown prince”.

He described the bid for a flag bearer in the NPP as “just a vacancy within the Party for all eligible members irrespective of blood relations”.

Mr Amateifio pointed out that the late Professor Albert Adu-Boahene was the flag-bearer in 1992 while Mr B J Da Rocha was Chairman in 1996-2000 and said when Mr Peter Ala Adjetey was the Chairman President J A Kufuor vied for MP, which indicated that they joined the NPP as individuals with different choices.

He described Dr Addo-Kufuor as “a dependable defender” and one of Ghana’s most accomplished medical doctors.

Mr Amateifio stated that the former Defence Minister had replicated his “outstanding success” recently in politics and governance and appealed to the delegates to the NPP Congress in December to settle on Dr Addo-Kufuor being a “result oriented leader with a proven track record”.
