AFPL donates computers to school

Mim (B/A), June 14, GNA – The management of Ayum Forest Products Limited (AFPL), a timber processing firm at Mim in the Asunafo district of the Brong-Ahafo Region, has donated 10 units of computers worth 30 million cedis to the Mim Model Basic School at Mim.

The presentation of the computers coincided with the 44th anniversary and the second speech and prize-giving day of the school. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Akuffo Owoo, General Manager of Naja David Plywood and Veneer Limited, parent company of AFPL, said the company had decided to sponsor three brilliant but needy pupils of the school on scholarship to the tertiary level. He said the company was committed to the socio-economic development of the people in its catchment area.

Miss Lydia Osei, Deputy Director-General of Education, in an address, stressed the need for all stakeholders in education to actively participate in the provision of quality education to the children. She said national development depended on the type of education that would be provided to the children and advised Ghanaians not to leave the education of the children to the government alone.

Mr Frank Agyedabi, Headmaster of the school, who spoke on the theme, “Education, Our Concern”, appealed to parents and traditional rulers to let the education of their children be their utmost priority.

Among those present at the ceremony were Mr Kwame Ampofo Twumasi, Deputy Minister of Education, Mr George Yaw Boakye, Asunafo District Chief Executive and Mr Ignatius Baffuor Awuah, Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, who donated 4,000 exercise books to the school.
