Afotey-Agbo visits steel explosion victims

Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, Greater-Accra Regional Minister, has visited victims of last Tuesday’s explosion that occurred at Special Steel Limited in Tema.

Nii Afotey-Aggo who interacted with five of the victims on admission at Raphal Medical Centre, expressed his sympathy to them and wished them speedy recovery.

The five are Robert Ankrah, Francis Annor, Eric Azilaku, Joseph Nartey and Kwamena Arhin.

Seven workers of Special Steel Limited got injured on Tuesday evening at about 2300 hours, when they were smelting molten steel.

Francis Annor, 27, who got burnt in the face and the two hands, told the Minister at his bedside that the incident occurred just after they added chemicals to the melted metal.

He said the workers are not paid any risk allowance even though they receive meager salaries.

Nii Afotey-Agbo who was accompanied by Mr. Robert Kempes Ofosuware, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, earlier toured the factory to acquaint himself with the company’s operations.

Mr. Rajan Vinod Kumar, Deputy Managing Director of Special Steel Limited, told the Minister that his outfit has put in place the needed safety measures at the factory.**
