Ahenkro (Ash), Nov. 20, GNA – Mr Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Old Tafo Constituency, has said that the Government of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had laid a solid foundation for the political and socio-economic developments of the country.
He said the electorate should, therefore, give the Party another four-year mandate to continue its sound economic policies to ensure accelerated development.
Mr Mensah-Bonsu was addressing supporters of the Party at a rally organised by the Afigya-Sekyere Constituency of the party at Ahenkro on Friday.
He noted that the almost four-year term of the NPP Government had seen a remarkable improvement in the living conditions of the majority of Ghanaians.
Mr Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Suame, said the re-introduction of the mass cocoa spraying exercise and the cocoa hi-tech by the Government had resulted in an increase in cocoa production thereby increasing the foreign exchange earnings of the country.
He explained that the payment of a producer price of 562,000 cedis per bag of cocoa and bonuses by the Government had improved the living conditions of farmers.
The MP added that the NPP Government had received recognition worldwide for ensuring democracy and good governance. Mr Mensah-Bonsu also commended the contributions of the MP, Mr Albert Kan-Dapaah in the development of the area and appealed to the people to vote massively for him and President John Agyekum Kufuor in the December 7 elections.
Mr Edward Osei-Kwaku, MP for Asokwa West, said opting for the Highly Indebted poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative had helped in the provision of schools, health facilities and roads, which had improved the socio-economic advancement of the people.
He pledged the commitment of the Government to ensure that all communities were provided with the necessary infrastructure facilities towards improving their living conditions.
Mr Kan-Dapaah said his eight years as the MP for the area had witnessed a lot of developments.
He mentioned the promotion of education through the provision of blocks of classrooms, award of scholarships to over 120 brilliant but needy students in basic and second cycle schools as well as tertiary institutions and the extension of electricity to some communities.
