Agona (Ash), Jan. 23, GNA – Inadequate health professionals and lack of adequate infrastructure are affecting quality health care delivery in the Afigya-Sekyere South District, Dr Lamech Abora Addo, Director of Health Service in the area has noted. He has therefore called for an urgent need to increase the number of health professionals, build more hospitals and or health centres with modern medical equipment to improve the situation. Dr Addo was speaking at an annual performance review workshop organized by the District Directorate of Health Service at Agona. The meeting discussed achievements and challenges during the past year and set targets for the year 2010.
The district with a population of 106,351 has only two hospitals, public and privately owned facilities. Currently, the government hospital has one medical officer with a single vehicle for its Health Directorate. He said a major challenge facing the hospital is poor staff attitude, which he noted was seriously hampering effective health delivery in the district. Dr Addo appealed to the health staff to embrace good work ethics and to continue to work hard to improve on their performances.
