Afigya-Sekyere Assembly To Set Up Buruli Ulcer Fund

Agona (Ash), Aug 21, – The Afigya-Sekyere district assembly is to set up a special fund in support of buruli ulcer patients in the area. The fund, would assist patients whose cases may require plastic surgery to correct their deformities. The decision followed a disclosure by the District Chief Executive, Mr Rexford Anokye, in his sessional address at the assembly’s ordinary meeting that there had been reported cases of the disease in the area. Communities with reported cases include Nkwantakase, Akom, Pentena, Pampatia, Esaase, Soko, Ahenkro and Denase. Mr Anokye said the assembly has provided funds to the district health directorate for the purchase of wound dressing materials, lotions and anti-biotics for the patients. He asked the assembly members to educate the people to heed the advice of the health directorate that people identified with the nodules should report early to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for excision to avoid developing serious ulceration. Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, Member of Parliament (MP) for Afigya Sekyere west, who proposed the setting up of the fund, said an appeal could be made to citizens from the area to make donations to it.
