Afigya-Kwabre votes GH¢300,000.00 for health facilities

The Afigya-Kwabre District Assembly has earmarked GH¢300,000.00 for the construction of two Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds as part of an aggressive drive to bring health care to the doorstep of the people.

Mr Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said these would be built at Amponsakrom and Adubinsu-kese in the district.

This, on completion, would bring to three, the number of CHPS compounds in the area. The only such facility is at Nkwanta-kese and it was put up by the people in the community, through self-help.

The DCE told reporters of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), after he took them round to inspect the project sites, that they would be funded from their share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

He said there were also plans to construct an additional CHPS compound at Aduman to give students of the Aduman Senior High School (SHS) access to prompt health care.

The journalists were there under the STAR-Ghana’s media auditing and tracking of development projects, an initiative launched to shine a spotlight on how government’s resources were helping to transform the lives of the people, particularly the rural population.

The goal is to aid transparency, promote accountability and good governance.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku said the assembly has voted another amount of GH¢228,000.00 for efficient waste management and improvement of rural water supply.

He said health and sanitation were a key priority of the assembly, and for that matter, it would do everything to ensure that the appropriate facilities were in place to prevent diseases.

The DCE said, as the assembly worked to provide the necessary health and sanitation infrastructure, it would continue to encourage the people through education to do the very simple and basic things that would enable them to stay healthy.
