AFAG to hold regional fora

Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), on Friday declared its support for Mr Martin Amidu, former Attorney General and Minister for Justice in his crusade to fight against corruption in Ghana.

“As a group, who believe in upholding the rule of law, promoting the interest of Ghanaians, and ensuring sound governance based on the true principles of accountability and transparency, we share and state without ambiguity, our highest support for any crusade that aim to deter perpetrators of gargantuan corruption against the state” it said.

This was contained in a statement signed by Nana Ayew Afriyie, Chairman of AFAG and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.

The statement said AFAG, a pressure group made up of different political party members, would organise regional fora which would be dubbed “Gargantuan Forum” to compel government to take an uncompromising and unwavering stands on the Woyome scandal, and also to raise awareness and educate the general public on the severity of the “woyomegate” and other financial scandals yet to be revealed by the group.

It added that the group would seek public opinions on how government was handling all judgment debt cases and also assess public expectations.

Dr Nana Afriyie called on President John Evans Atta Mills to re-assure Ghanaians of a security protection for Mr. Martin Amidu.

Mr Martin Amidu, who was relieved of his post for what the Presidency described as misconduct, on Wednesday February 29 issued a press statement which questioned the quality of the legal representation for the Republic in the ongoing Ghc 51 million judgment debts involving embattled businessman Mr Alfred Agbesi Woyome.
