AESDA planning to turn waste into organic manure

Winneba (C/R), Aug. 14, GNA – The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly (AESDA) is collaborating with Agencies and private companies to process waste into organic manure for use by the agricultural sector in the district, especially commercial pineapple farming.

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Solomon Abam-Quaye, said this at a meeting of the District Assembly at Winneba at the weekend. He said fee paying door-to-door refuse collection would soon be introduced in Winneba and other areas including Kasoa. Mr. Abam-Quaye said the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRDE) assisted the assembly with amount of 1.2 billion cedis for the evacuation of refuse at Kasoa-Oboom road.

The road leading to the final waste disposal site at Gomoa Buduburam as well as construction of six manholes for liquid waste disposal would be funded from the amount, he said.

The DCE said the Assembly had been receiving memoranda on the privatisation of public toilets in the Winneba Township. Mr Abam-Quaye expressed dissatisfaction with the low level of revenue generated from the district’s five markets and blamed the situation partly on “apathetic attitude” of collectors, as well as, the deplorable nature of the markets.

He said the MLGRDE had decided to rehabilitate the Bawjiase market into modern market, adding that the Senya market was receiving some attention while plans are far advanced to relocate Bontrase market.
