Aduman secondary school to re-open

Mamponteng (Ash), Oct 24, GNA – Aduman Secondary School, which was closed down on October 10 after a peaceful demonstration by the students for the removal of the Headmaster, Mr M.Y. Mensah, is to re-open on Tuesday, October 28.

The re-opening of the school follows the submission of a report by the fact-finding committee appointed by Alhaji Kwasi Yeboah, the Kwabre District Chief Executive in consultation with the District Education Oversight Committee at Mamponteng on Friday.

Though the contents of the report were not disclosed to the press, a reliable source told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the committee called for the re-opening of the school on Tuesday.

The source said the report among other things recommended that the students should be bonded to be of good behaviour.

Receiving the report, Alhaji Yeboah commended the committee for working hard to complete its work within the time given it.

The students demonstrated for two days and walked the long distance from Aduman to Mamponteng and Kumasi to present their grievances to the District Chief Executive and the Ashanti Regional Director of Education.

They accused the Headmaster of mal-administration and the dismissal of competent masters from the school leading to the mass failure of final year students in this year’s Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE).

They also accused him of bribery and corruption and overcrowding in the dormitories and classrooms.
