Adukrom Sectech inaugurates computer lab

Adukrom-Akuapem, Jan. 28, GNA- A 200-million-cedi computer laboratory was on Saturday inaugurated at the Adukrom Secondary Technical School, at Adukrom, in the Eastern Region, as part of efforts to introduce students to Information Communication Technology (ICT). The Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) of the school and the Institute of Computer Technology (ICT), an Accra-based UK non-governmental organisation (NGO), jointly provided the 35 computers and accessories.

Speaking at the ceremony, the chairman of the PTA, W.O Godson Anats, commended the NGO for the assistance, and said the students had paid 30,000 each cedis per term to enable them get training in computer. A representative of the ICT, Mr Bright Gomez, said the NGO, in an agreement with the Ghana Education Service (GES), had so far supplied 80 Senior Secondary Schools (SSS) with computers since 1997. He said under the agreement, NGO was expected to maintain and replace the computers, provide teachers for computer training, and register the students for ICT examinations.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Kwame Yeboah-Odame, commended the PTA for supporting the school to attain 100 per cent in the 2005 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSSCE), which he said was the best record in the school’s 20-year-history.

He said besides academic laurels, discipline in the school was improving adding that the school topped in the Eastern Regional drama competition last year and was second in Independence debate was the Zonal Soccer Champions.

Mr Yeboah-Odame, however, expressed concern about the poor payment of school fees and urged parents to pay their children’s school fees on time to enable the school function effectively. He appealed to the PTA to provide the school with a vehicle and desks.
