Adukrom residents appeal to KMA to clear abandoned refuse heap

Kumasi, Oct. 19, GNA – Residents of Adukrom have appealed to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to expedite action on the evacuation of a pile of refuse unattended to in the area to avoid the outbreak of any epidemic.

Mr Lukeman Mohammed, assemblyman for the Adukrom electoral area, said with late rains setting in, the possibility of an epidemic breaking out if the refuse was not swiftly cleared was quite high.

Mr Mohammed was addressing members of the Adukrom-Sawaba branch of the Adventist Men’s Organisation after they had spent two hours to clean up their environment at Adukrom and Sawaba in Kumasi on Sunday. They desilted choked drains and filled potholes along the principal streets of Adukrom and Sawaba.

The assemblyman said what was more worrying was the health of innocent school children since the pile of garbage was between the Holy Spirit Primary/Junior Secondary School and the Open Heaven Preparatory Schools.

“Even though the Waste Management Department of the KMA pledged to come and evacuate the refuse after several contacts, they have still not taken any action to clear the garbage”, he added.
