Accra, April 14, GNA- The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) on Thursday donated a total of 14,802 assorted books, valued at 1.036 billion cedis to 19 educational institutions in Ghana. The books are to boost the Arts, Business, Science and Music disciplines of beneficiary institutions including all the public universities, polytechnics, basic, junior and secondary schools, some private tertiary schools and community libraries.
Mr Justice Abbey, Finance Director of ADRA, who handed over the items to the school’s representatives, said the gesture, was aimed at boosting the national pursuit of education.
” Over the last few years, ADRA/GHANA with the support of Brothers Brother Foundation, a US -based non-governmental organisation and ADRA/International… has been donating textbooks to institutions in the country. What we are witnessing today is one of such donations,” he said.
Mr Abbey said the donation had shifted the frontiers of ADRA, which had been associated with food security, micro finance and relief, HIV/AIDS programmes with the support of the United States Agency for International Development, United States Department of Agriculture and ADRA International.
He said ADRA had been involved in the establishment of 851 schools made up of 47 day care centres, 376 primary schools, 412 junior secondary schools and 16 senior secondary schools. Mr Henry Daniel Clerk, a Director at the Ministry of Education thanked ADRA for the kind gesture, saying without books education cannot thrive.
