Adom FM Goofs Again

From Inusa Musah, Tema

It was never true that some foot soldiers of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) thronged the premises of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) last Friday morning to cause mayhem as Adom FM, a Tema-based radio station, made their listeners to believe on the Station’s morning show ‘Dwaso NsÂm,’ which host is Adakabre Frimpong-Manson.

The TMA premises was alive with its members going on with their normal Assembly duties at the time the false news broke out from Adom FM that some aggrieved NDC foot soldiers had besieged the area to demonstrate against the Chief Executive of the Assembly, Mr. Kempes Ofosu-Ware.

Speaking to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Assembly, Mr. Frank Asante, in his office shortly after Adom FM misinformed the public, he noted with great worry how the Radio Station could go on air with such naked misinformation without calling his office to fathom what the real issue was about.

Narrating what transpired on the premises to The Herald, the PRO said that a group of young persons were at the Assembly to collect a cheque in payment of a job they had done within the premises from the Assembly’s Finance Officer.

Unhappily for the guys, when they arrived that morning, the officer had not arrived in the office, so they decided to create a scene on the down floor corridor of the Assembly in protest, the PRO said.

He noted that when his attention was drawn to the young men’s protest, he approached and explained to them to meet the Finance Officer on Monday as she might have been held in traffic from Accra where she resides “and they understood me and left singing some remonstration songs”.

Mr. Asante said he was unhappy when he heard the misinformation on Adom FM and so he quickly called the Station to set the record straight and entreated them to retract the erroneous information they disseminated to their listeners.

“Adom FM sent a reporter to me not too long ago after I had called them to disagree with the information they passed, and I have furnished him with exactly what happened this morning. So I expect the Station to do the retraction,” he said.

The PRO could however not tell how much the Assembly owed the workmen or the number of men who marched to the TMA.
