Adansi South to get 50 boreholes

New Edubiase (Ash), Jan. 7, GNA – A number of communities in the Adansi South District are to benefit from 50 boreholes, household VIP toilets and institutional toilets.

Beneficiary communities under the Phase Four of the Rural Water and Sanitation Project are to pay five per cent of the total cost of a borehole while the District Assembly bears five per cent. The German government and the government of Ghana will bear the rest of the cost.

Miss Theophilia Anokye, Ashanti Regional Co-ordinator of the Rural Water and Sanitation Programme, announced this at the launch of the Adansi South Rural Water and Sanitation Project at New Edubiase. She said the drilling of the boreholes and the construction of toilets was to help reduce the incidence of water-borne diseases in the beneficiary communities.

Miss Anokye said some people from the beneficiary communities would be trained to maintain the boreholes so that they would be operational at all times.

Nana Mai Ababio, chief of Amudurase, who chaired the function, commended the government of Ghana and the German government for the project, which would enable the rural communities to enjoy potable water and good sanitation.
