Brofoyedru (Ash), Dec. 28, GNA – The Adansi South District of Ashanti needs a total of 268 trained teachers to fill vacancies in basic schools in the district.
Mr Francis Dorpenyoh, the District Chief Executive, who announced this, stressed, “Lack of teachers is the major problem confronting basic education in the district”. He was speaking at a community harvest organised by the chiefs and people of Anokyekrom-Brofoyedru in aid of school and water projects on Tuesday.
Mr Dorpenyoh said as a result of the lack of teacher, the district has presented over 400 persons to the government’s Untrained Teachers Diploma In Basic Education (UTTDBE) programme at the Akrokerri College of Education. The District Chief Executive told the people, “The government is now making the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) functional with the implementation of the capitation grant”. Mr Dorpenyoh urged parents to take advantage of the situation and ensure that all their children of school-going age were enrolled in school.
The DCE commended the people for their communal spirit, adding, “If all communities have such spirit, then the government will have very little to offer in terms of community development”. Nana Kofi Atta Amofah, the Krontihene of Anokyekrom-Brofoyedru, stressed the importance of education and made a passionate appeal to the district assembly for cement to assist the community to complete a new school block.
He also appealed to the DCE for two additional boreholes to add to the two that they had paid for but yet to be constructed. Mr Paul Boakye, the assemblyman for the area, said the community had spent a lot of time and resources on their school project and hoped the assembly would support its completion.
The assemblyman, who is a senior revenue superintendent with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), donated a fluorescent bulb and frame to the community. Dec. 28, 05
