Adamorebe residents cry for help over landguards frequent attack

Adamorebe (E/R), Aug. 30, GNA – Mr Offei Dei, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ward Chairman for Adamorebe near Aburi in the Akuapem South Municipality, has appealed to the Eastern Regional Minister to urgently provide security to curb the activities of landguards in the area.

He said the landguards, who numbered about 50 and often rode on motorbikes and vehicles, have destroyed buildings belonging to individuals and terrorized people in the area, especially women.

Mr Dei, who made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Adamorebe on Monday, said the activities of the landguards have caused fear and panic among the people.

He said if nothing immediately was done about the situation the people would not have peace to participate in the forthcoming district level election since some of them were moving away from the area.

Emphasizing his called on the Minister for the provision of security for the people, Mr Dei produced a copy of a letter to the GNA, dated January 11, 2006 and signed by the then Minister of the Interior, Mr Papa Owusu Ankomah to the Inspector-General of Police to initiate investigations into the matter.

The letter was also for the IGP to take necessary action to avoid a breach of the peace in the area.

It said the people had earlier complained about activities of Otinibi Mantse and his landguards on Tete Pa Ogya Family land at Adamorebe near Aburi.
