Ho, Jan. 31, GNA- A number of placard bearing people from the Adaklu Traditional Area on Monday, protested against the Volta Regional Minister -designate Mr Kofi Dzamesi in Ho, for allegedly playing down the dispute over the location of a new capital for newly created Adaklu-Anyigbe District.
Mr Dzamesi was said to have told the Parliamentary Vetting Committee in Accra, last week, that the uncompromising position of Adaklu chiefs that they would not have anything to do with the new District, did not represent the views of the Adaklu state.
At the centre of the controversy are Legislative Instruments (LI).LI. 1741, that gave the District capital to Adaklu-Waya, while LI.1807 conferred the status on Kpetoe.
The protestors, draped in red, converged at the heavily secured office premises of the Regional Coordinating Council, where they presented a petition to the President, through Mr Steve Selormey, Regional Coordinating Director.
The four-page petition, which was read by Togbe Agbobada IV, Chief of Adaklu-Anfoe said: “The people of Adaklu… will not be part of the new District.”
“No citizen of Adaklu shall accept any appointment to Kpetoe, either as District Chief Executive, District Coordinating Director or any other position.”
The petition warned that the anger of the people could no longer be suppressed, stressing: “We can therefore not guarantee the peace and security of the area”.
The document showed a map, which indicated that Adaklu was the largest among the three traditional areas in the District while Adaklu-Waya was better situated for the capital.
The petition asked the government to be informed by the recommendations of the Regional House of Chiefs and the Asogli Traditional Council on the issue.
