Adaklu-Anyigbe senior citizens urge District Assembly on

Kpetoe (V/R, July 1, GNA – Senior citizens in the Adaklu-Anyigbe District of the Volta Region on Friday commended the District Assembly for ensuring peace and accelerated development.

They contended that though the District was created only seven years ago, it was rubbing shoulders with some older districts in infrastructural development.

They expressed these views during an open forum at Senior Citizens Luncheon to mark this year’s Republic Day at Kpetoe.

“Though we are a new District, we can boast of staff bungalows and several classroom blocks among other (projects),” Mr Peter Kwame Attipoe, a Pensioner said.

There was consensus among the pensioners that government should take action to reduce the high cost of education and fulfil its promise on a state funded university in the Region.

Other contributors also said access to healthcare services, education and other essential amenities had improved greatly in the last seven years.

Mr Michael Kobla Adzaho, District Chief Executive expressed gratitude to the senior citizens for recognising the efforts being made by the government.

“I am happy that all senior citizens from the three traditional areas are here and are attesting to some developments coming to their areas,” he said.

Mr Adzaho urged the pensioners to advise their children to take advantage of government’s interventions at reducing poverty.

He said the Assembly had several development programmes and assured the retirees that better time was ahead of them.

“We will soon acquire a grader to work on our town roads, extend electricity to all villages and get a District Hospital to improve our livelihood,” Mr Adzaho said.
