Kpetoe (V/R), Jan. 26, GNA – There is a softening of position by some communities in the Adaklu Traditional Area who took a hardline position against the choice of Agotime-Kpetoe as capital of the new Adaklu-Anyigbe District.
Mr Mawuli Kwame Dabi, Adaklu-Anyigbe District Chief Executive, told the assembly on Thursday that some “hardline’ communities that vowed never to join the assembly had begun accepting and enjoying support services from the assembly.
He said the assembly had now made gains towards uniting the three traditional areas that form the district for the smooth administration of the assembly at Kpetoe.
Mr Dabi said though the ” new sense” of involvement was not 100 per cent, it was good news for the celebration of the country’s 50th independence anniversary.
He appealed to the few others who remained undecided on the assembly to hurriedly join it for the benefit of all. Mr Dabi commended the paramount chiefs of the three traditional areas made up of Agortime, Adaklu and Ziope for the success achieved so far and appealed to them to persevere in their efforts until total unity was achieved.
Mr Dabi pledged the preparedness of the assembly to implement recommendations in the Nana Akompi’s Committee Report into the impasse.
The committee recommended fair distribution of resources among the three traditional areas.
Commenting on the assembly’s 2006 fiscal year, the he said only 7.8 per cent of estimated total internal revenue was collected.
He attributed the situation to the initial administrative problems of the assembly and urged assembly members to re-examine the performance of commissioned collectors and review strategies for revenue collection.
