Adaamanso communities ban all nocturnal activities

Wassa-Adaamanso (W/R) May 5, GNA- The chiefs and people of Wassa-Adaamanso in the Wassa Amenfi East District, have reintroduced puberty rites and banned wake-keeping and other nocturnal social activities.

Nana Gyakwaw Piah II, Chief of the town said the measure was part of efforts to reintroduce traditional norms and values as a means to curb rising cases of Aids and social problems particularly among the youth. He was addressing a durbar at Wassa-Adaamanso to round-off the celebration of the annual yam festival, which was on the theme: “Community Development Through Festivals – The Role Of The Traditional Leader”.

Highlights of the festival were the commissioning of a new palace and launching of an educational endowment fund. Nana Piah noted that unless the youth were educated to appreciate and respect “true African norms and values”, problems being encountered, as the result of adulteration of Ghanaian customs would continue to confront society.

He called on chiefs and other traditional leaders to coordinate their efforts to check the spread of HIV/AIDS with other stakeholders. “Our youth need to live in good health in order to contribute their quota to socio-economic development agenda of the government”, Nana Piah said.

He appealed to the Ghana Education Service, the District Assembly and non-governmental organisations to assist the local primary and junior secondary schools with classrooms.

Mr David Kwasi Adjei, Managing Director of Bawdie Abattoir Resort who chaired the function called on the people to participate actively in the area’s development since community development was a shared responsibility.
