Ada Salt miners to train in iodising salt

Ada, June 21, GNA — Salt miners in the Dangme East District are to benefit from a training programme to enable them to appreciate the importance of iodising their salt.

Mr David Oppong, Coordinator of the President Special Initiative (PSI), who made this known to the Chief of Ada, Jetse Abram Kabu Akuaku III, said the training had already begun in some localities including Adjumany Korpey.

He said research had proved that, iodine was good for the mentally retarded as well as the prevention of ailments including goitre. Mr Oppong said the District played was important in the country’s salt production with 50 percent of the nation’s annual production. Jetse Akuaku, who received the delegation made up of officials from PSI, Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and UNICEF promised the support of the Ada Traditional Council for the success of the programme.
