Ada Paramount Chief denies allegation of relocation of communities

The Paramount Chief of Ada Traditional Area, Nene Abram Kabu Akuaku III, has denied the allegations that the government would relocate communities around the Ada Soghor lagoon area to pave way for a pipeline project.

He said before the celebration of the last year’s Ada Asafotufiami festival, an inter-ministerial committee called on him to disclose government’s intention of turning Ada Soghor Salt Project into a limited liability company. He said the committee explained that the intention of the government was to ensure the effective development of the salt industries.

Nene Kabu Akuaku said he told the committee that there were four divisional clans at Ada who owned the land and the lagoon, so it was important for all the divisional heads to be informed of the government’s intention concerning the Ada Soghor lagoon.

He said he appealed to the committee to also organize meetings with the people to explain to them the operational modalities while they (Ada chiefs) communicated their request to the government.

Nene Akuaku said after the meeting with the committee he has not received any letter indicating that any community around Ada Soghor lagoon would be relocated.

He cautioned saboteurs to stop worsening the plight of the Ada people in the name of scoring cheap political marks and called on Adas at home and abroad to be at peace since their “life blood of the Soghor lagoon will surely serve the purpose that will be beneficial for all.”
