Ada East records meningitis death Ada

The Ada East District Hospital has recorded one death from meningitis after diagnosing two suspected cases.

Dr. Philip Narh, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital confirming this to the Ghana News Agency at Ada in the Greater Accra Region, said when the test was conducted on the two suspected persons, one proved positive to the meningitis bacteria while the other was negative.

Dr. Narh said although the examination done immediately revealed the disease, they could not tell which type of meningitis it was because the facility does not have the equipment to carry out further test and the sample taken, had to be sent to a reference point.

He cautioned the public to avoid overcrowded rooms with poor ventilation and should quickly report at the nearest health facility when they detect feverishness, frequent headaches and nausea.

Dr. Narh said people should not wait until symptoms such as convulsion sets in as it would be difficult to cure the disease at that stage.
