Acute Kerosene shortage hits Wa

Wa, Feb. 11, GNA – Rural Communities within the Wa municipality have resorted to the use of diesel as fuel for their lanterns due to an acute shortage of kerosene.

This development has, however, not adversely affected the supply of diesel, Mr. Caesar Tegyi, an official of Total Filling Station in Wa told the Ghana News agency in an interview on Friday.

He said the latest consignment of kerosene was sold out on January 29, this year and that the station had since then not got any deliveries from either Buipe or Tema and anytime they enquired from their management they were told that the product was currently very scarce. Mr Tegyi explained that villagers who patronized diesel were buying in small quantities because of the price difference of seven thousand cedis, while they waited for the next consignment of Kerosene. While diesel sells at 29,000 cedis the price of kerosene is 22,000cedis. and they, therefore, relied on what was available at Total.

It was learnt during GNA rounds that market women who managed to get Kerosene from sources outside Wa, retailed it at over 30,000 cedis a gallon depending on the distance of the location of the source of supply.
