Acquaint yourselves with ICT courses – Asantehene

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has advised students to show more interest in Information Communication and Technology (ICT) education, to make them more skillful and competent in the job market.

He said the job market in recent times has become competitive with employers and corporate organizations interested in employing graduates who have a thorough grasp of ICT to achieve efficiency at work.

This is why they should in addition to the knowledge acquired in their institutions take up IT-based programmes to give them a competitive urge.

The Asantehene said this in a speech read for him at a graduation ceremony organized by NIIT, an ICT training institute, at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

A total of 139 students graduated and were presented with Diploma Certificates after a two-year studies in software and network engineering, as well as graphic and web design.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu challenged the students to go into partnerships and explore avenues for establishing their own businesses to reduce graduate unemployment.

He lauded the NIIT for training over 40,000 professionals nationwide, who are now spearheading development in many fields of endeavour.

Mr. Vivek Verma, Head of Business, NIIT, said the institute continues to revise its curriculum and structure to reflect current technological advancement.

He said they have lately added smart phone application development using “Android Technology and ITILv3” and these cutting edge technologies amongst others provide their students with good programme options.**
