Achimota School gets microscopes

Accra, Jan. 24, GNA – The 1955-Year Group of Old Achimota Association (OAA) on Monday, donated 30 advanced school microscopes worth over 40 million cedis to the School’s laboratory.

The donation is part of the Founders’ Day Celebration scheduled for March.

The 1955-year group has also promised to renovate the Junior Biology and the General-Purpose Laboratory of the school at a cost of about 60 million cedis.

Mr Albert Ababio Owusu, President of the 1955-Year Group presenting the items to the school, said it had been a tradition of Year-Groups celebrating their Golden Jubilee to host the Founders’ Day and undertake projects, which would help improve teaching and learning.

“Our year-group will play a principal role in the organization of this year’s Founders’ Day celebration, which falls on March 12. We will provide the guest speaker for the occasion.”

Mrs Adelaide Dufie Kwami, Headmistress of the school, called on the community and the general public to see it as a responsibility to help in providing quality education.

“Government alone cannot provide quality education; there is the need for old students and the community at large to help provide quality education in the country,” she said.

Mrs Kwami promised that the school would ensure proper maintenance of the items.
