Accused person assaults Police Officer with handcuff

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA – An accused person on Tuesday hit the forehead and head of a Police Corporal escorting him to court with his handcuff drawing a lot of blood.

Paul Afriyie, the accused, had appeared at a Circuit Court to stand trial after defrauding a medical practitioner of 200,000 dollars. Afriyie, a 26-year-old trader, who pleaded not guilty to the charge, is on remand because of his involvement in a similar case. After Afriyie’s case had been heard at the first court, the Prosecution in the second case asked that he should be escorted to another court, and Corporal K. Commey and another Policeman escorted him.

Afriyie protested because he did not want the two Police officers to escort him.

He flared up and hit his handcuff on the forehead and head of Corporal Commey.

The Policeman, who had his shirt soaked with blood, managed to escort Afriyie to the court with the assistance of his colleague. After Afriyie was sent to the courtroom, some Policemen took Corporal Commey to the hospital.
