Accused fined 500,000 cedis for assault

Tema, April 13, GNA – A circuit court “A” in Tema sentenced an unemployed who assaulted a bicycle apprentice at Ashaiman to a fine of 500,000 cedis.

Moses Hackman who pleaded guilty on the charge of assault would go to jail for two years in default of payment.

Prosecuting, Insp Adolphus Otchere told the court that on February 22, 2004, at 1500 hours, Ibrahim Mohammed a bicycle repairer and his apprentice, Philip Agbeku who was riding a bicycle were on their way home.

The prosecutor said on reaching a spot within the zone five at Lebanon, Ashaiman, Hackman without any provocation held Philip’s bicycle. Insp Otchere said when Mohammed requested the accused to release the bicycle, Hackman and his friends pounced on Agbeku and assaulted him.

Mohammed raised the alarm and some people helped him to arrest the accused and the accomplices escaped.
