Accra West GWCL embarks on revenue mobilisation

The Accra West Region of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) last Saturday launched a revenue programme in its five districts and collected 61.5 million cedis from consumers.

The operational districts, comprising Dansoman, South West, North West One, North Two, and Bortianor, were in arrears of 4.2 billion cedis out of total regional receivable of 28 billion cedis.

The four-hour revenue drive, was led by the Regional Chief Manager, Mr F.C Lokko and assisted by the District Manager, Mr Kofi Ashiboe-Mensah.

Speaking at the close of the exercise, Mr Lokko commended the staff for their hard work and urged them to remain committed to mobilising revenue for the company.

“You should be dedicated to the job especially in the area of efficient bill distribution and meter reading so that customers can have faith in the bills that we send to them.”

He said his main concern was the reduction of the 28 billion cedis arrears owed by consumers in the region, adding that this time around the company would do everything possible to raise revenue.

He urged customers to pay up their bills promptly and warned recalcitrant customers, “especially those who connive with our staff to engage in illegal connections, by passing and removing metres, to desist from that act.” “We shall go for these categories of people”, he said.

The District Manager, Mr Ashiboe Mensah also commended the staff, urging them to work harder in creating the awareness among consumers to perform their civic duties and not to cheat the company.

He said his doors would remain open for customers who have some dispute over their bills and advised his staff to be consistent in the delivering of bills to customers, and remain diligent in metre reading.
