Accra schools receive uniforms

The Greater Accra Regional Directorate of Education has released sets of uniforms to its Metropolitan, Municipality and District (MMD) offices for onward distribution to pupils.

Mrs. Felicia Boakye Yiadom, the Regional Director of Education, at a brief ceremony, on behalf of the Ministry of Education, donated about 48,133 uniforms to pupils in the 16 MMD’s in the region.

Mrs. Boakye Yiadom thanked the government for the gesture and urged the directors to ensure that the uniforms get to the school children as soon as possible in order to ”alleviate some of the problems children face regarding school supplies.”

“Free distribution of school uniforms is part of the on-going social intervention programme of the Ministry of Education to make education accessible to all school-age children. It is the wish of the Ministry of Education that poverty should not be a barrier to education. I know this presentation will go a long way to help many of our children who, otherwise, could not have entered education,” she said.

Madam Angela Taylor-Mensah, Accra Metropolitan Director of Education, who spoke on behalf of her colleagues, thanked the government and Ministry of Education for the donation, and assured that they would get to the beneficiary children without delay.
