Accra, April 17, GNA – The third in a series of clean-up campaign launched by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) recorded the lowest patronage as most residents on Saturday ignored the appeal to participate in the exercise to rid the city of filth.
A visit to some metropolis by a Ghana News Agency team between 0700 hours and 0900 hours revealed that unlike the first and second exercise, which was well patronized by market women and other traders operating in the city, the third was simply a fiasco.
Most traders, shop owners, and the general public were rather busily engaged in their own activities or were just unconcerned and looked on as some young men attempted to clear the filth.
The metropolis includes Nima, Newtown, Makola Market, Agbogboloshie, Adabraka, Kaneshie Market, Abbosey Okai and the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, which are, incidentally the centres of filth in the capital city. The few people who participated complained about lack of enough garbage containers in their areas to cart the desilted waste.
