Accra Metro To Beautify Accra

Accra, – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) will start decorating roundabouts and other open spaces with art works as part of the beautification programme of the city. Mr Nat. Nuno Amartefio, Chief Executive of the AMA, said this when

opening a month-long Sculpture exhibition by Mr Francis Kwatei Nee-Owoo at Accra Novotel last night. Sponsored by the Novotel, the exhibition include bronze effigies of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Yaa Asantewaa, the Ashanti warrior who led her people in war against the British at the beginning of the century, plaques of the Biblical Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden as well as fishermen in their net mending situation. Nee-Owoo’s deftly-moulded works in bronze, aluminium, copper and brass cut across a wide range of subjects including wildlife, music, religion, history, science and the environment, but his real love are abstracts with international flavour. Mr Amartefio urged house and shopowners to adopt the same idea as an encouragement to talented artists in the country, adding “together we can build an artistic heritage”. Most people, especially government agencies attach less importance to art and “that is why I commend Novotel for its sponsorship programme of hosting such exhibitions”. Mr Nee-Owoo thanked the management of Novotel for hosting his exhibitions on three occasions which has helped to boost his image.
