Accra Mayor inspects burnt Odorna market

Mr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive on Tuesday inspected the Odawna Market that was gutted by fire over the weekend.

The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, was due to electrical fault and there were no casualties recorded.

About 96 stores and sheds with goods were destroyed by the fire, which took about five hours to bring under control.

Mr. Vanderpuije expressed shock and dismay about the disaster and assured the traders of AMA’s support in the reconstruction of the market and called on the market women to cooperate with the authorities when the market is being rebuilt.

He ordered the removal of all the debris at the market for the reconstruction to start and appealed to the traders to desist from illegal electrical connections.
