Accra, June 28, GNA – A pilot training program for private schools

titled, “Developing Skills in Financial and Credit Management for Private School Owners,” is underway in Accra. The event being sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development(USAID), and The Mitchell Group Incorporated(TMG), attracted over 100 heads of private schools in the country.

It sought to empower personnel in private schools with skills and knowledge that would enable them to raise funds for the effective running of their schools.

Mr. Baba Donatus Anaba, Project Coordinator for TMG, said a recent survey carried out by TMG and USAID, showed that some private schools in the country, especially those in deprived communities, lacked good libraries, Information Communication and Technology facilities among others, which were crucial to the development of school children. He said it was also discovered that the schools lacked the ability to raise funds to procure educational inputs and facilities. Mr. Baba Anaba said the long-term aim of the programme, was to help improve upon the quality of education in the country. He said after the pilot project would be replicated in other regions of the country.

Topics being discussed include records keeping, credit and finance management and preparing bank table business plan.
