The second phase of the house numbering and street identification project in the Accra Metropolitan Area will begin early next year.
The first phase of the project, which began last year, ended in August. Areas covered by the first phase included, Madina, Adenta, Weija, Mallam, Kwashieman, Awoshie and Gbawe.
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly is currently holding discussions with the World Bank for the commencement of the second phase which is expected to improve the house address system, ease bill service and improve service delivery in the metropolis. Nii Adjiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra, disclosed this at the first ordinary meeting of the third session of the Assembly in Accra.
He said the exercise would comprise the designing and implementation of a zip-code and street addressing system.
Mr. Adjiri Blankson said the exercise covered a total of 151,280 properties, which were more than the existing number of 63,000 properties listed under the World Bank assisted Urban I project.
He said final negotiations were yet to be concluded with the companies shortlisted for the award of the project.
