Accra hosts training programme for African Journalists

Accra, Sept. 2, GNA – Twenty-five selected Journalists across the African continent will converge in Accra from September 3 to 8 for a training programme in preparation towards the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The Workshop, an initiative of Twenty Ten, a Dutch-based outfit is to adequately prepare the media professionals for the first ever World Cup to be staged on the African soil next year. A statement issued and signed by Professor Kwame Karikari, Executive Director of Media Foundation for West Africa (MWFA), facilitators of the event, copied to GNA Sports said the workshop is the second phase of the ‘Twenty Ten: African Media on the Road to 2010’ which aims at giving African journalists a voice to tell their own stories globally.

Prof. Karikari added that the participants, specialists in print and photo journalism are among a total of 108 other African journalists also undertaking similar exercises elsewhere on the continent. He explained that the selected participants who were picked through stringent criteria will benefit from a series of training from now till the end of the year.

“Eighteen of them would finally be selected to tour South Africa during the World Cup and provide professional coverage of the matches and event as a whole.”

Training for print journalists is provided by the European Journalism Centre in cooperation with Reuters Foundation and will be jointly facilitated by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG). 02 Sept. 09
