Accra and Amsterdam sign agreement

Accra, March 18,GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the city of Amsterdam on Thursday signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at improving relations between the two cities.

The agreement among other things targeted areas such as exchange of knowledge and experiences in the field of financial management on a professional level between the two cities.

It would also ensure that the policy department of the city of Amsterdam and the physical planning department of Accra shared know-how on physical planning.

The agreement provides avenue for electronic method of processing personal data and general document management as well initiate exchange study programmes of municipal delegates for mutual benefits. Signing the MOU the Vice Mayor of Amsterdam Mr Mark van der Horst said the cooperation between Ghana and the Netherlands had existed for a long time.

He said the present agreement was only a confirmation of longstanding historical friendly relation between the two cities. Mr Horst expressed the hope that the agreement would lead to close cooperation in various fields and on different levels of public administration.

“The city of Amsterdam and the city of Accra have decided to enhance bilateral cooperation, exchange of know-how and experiences in areas of mutual benefit”

Mr Stanley Nii Adyiri Blankson, Mayor of Accra, said the city was faced with a critical issue of good city planning, development management, control and environmental waste management. He noted that such problems had not put the city of Accra in it best shape.

Mr Blankson expressed the hoped that the agreement between the two cities would usher them into an era of fruitful endeavours to the benefit of their respective citizens.
