A 63-year-old former Accountant of the then Accra City Council, Nii Okai Acheampong, has been installed as Chief Fisherman of Ngleshie Alata in James Town, Accra.
Under the stool name Nii Okai Okaishie III, he succeeded his late uncle Nii Armah Kofi III who died three years ago.
Nii Okai Okaishie, whose installation brought together all chief fishermen along the coastal belt of the Greater Accra Region, was paraded through the principal streets of the town amidst Asafo drumming and dancing.
He later took the oath of allegiance and office before the chiefs and people, promising to work in collaboration with them towards the development of fishermen in the area.
Nii Okai Okaishie said the standard of living in fishing areas were very low, with most children not in school and appealed to the parents to invest their resources in education since it was the key to the development of fishermen.
Oblempong Nii Kojo Ababio V, Paramount Chief of James Town Traditional Area, told the new chief fisherman to take advice from his sub-chiefs and elders to ensure harmony and development in Ngleshie Alata to give meaning to his reign. He thanked the chiefs and elders of the Ngleshie Alata for their absolute support that had brought the programme to a success.
Nii Kwashie Gbolor IV, Chief of Ngleshie Amanfro who chaired the function, commended the citizens for their comportment and advised the new Chief Fisherman to continue with the spirit of togetherness to enhance the rapid development of fishermen at James Town.
