Tema, March 8, GNA- The Tema Circuit Court “B” on Thursday ordered the station officer at the Sakumono police station and an investigator in an accident case that has been kept from court for prosecution for three years to appear before it on the next adjourned date.
Mr Stephen Teye made the order when a medical doctor appeared before him on charges of careless driving and negligently causing harm to Cornelia Boadu. The charge sheet showed that the accident happened on August 16, 2001.
Dr Isaac Yeboah-Smith pleaded not guilty, and was granted 30 million cedis bail with a surety to be justified and to reappear on March 19, 2004.
The prosecution said on August 8, 2001 at about 0700 hours, Dr Yeboah-Smith was in-charge of a VW bus from Accra heading towards Tema through Nungua.
On reaching a section of the road at Sakumono junction, where pedestrians keep crossing all the time, the accused knocked down and injured Cornelia a schoolgirl who was crossing the road.
The prosecution said the victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Tema Port Clinic for treatment. The case was reported to the Sakumono police, and after investigations the accused was charged with the offence.
