Accident claims two lives at Kentinkrono

Two persons have been confirmed dead after a VIP bus ran over them at Kentinkrono, on the Kumasi-Accra road Thursday evening.

Some passengers on board the VIP bus also sustained several degrees of injuries and are being treated at the KNUST Hospital.

The cause of the accident is being investigated but police sources told TV3 it could be as a result of brake failure.

The Granbird VIP bus with registration number GN 4579-14 was traveling from Kumasi to Accra at about 8pm on Thursday when it veered off its lane and crashed into some structures along the roadside.

The two, 57-year old Akwasi Amankwah Isaac, and 40-year old Benjamin Oppong Ansah, who were standing by the roadside waiting to board a vehicle to Ejisu were hit by the speeding bus.

The two died shortly after being sent to the KNUST hospital for treatment.

The bus passengers who got injured as well as the driver who fell unconscious are currently receiving treatment at the KNUST Hospital.

ASP Ransford Nsiah, KNUST District Commander said the police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident.

He advised commuters to stay alert and always ensure that they face the direction of incoming vehicles when standing by the roadside.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the Aninwaah hospital at Emena for autopsy and preservation.
