Abutia-Kpota gets potable drinking water

Abutia-Kpota (V/R), June 17, GNA – The perennial water problem at Abutia-Kpota, a farming community in the Ho Municipal area, has become history.

This followed the donation of three water pumps to the community by a UK based power generating, gas storage and distribution company. The company, E-ON UK, has in addition provided the community with GH¢133,000 towards the installation of the water pumps.

The donation was the initiative of Mr. Robert Azanu, a citizen of the community and an employee of the company in the United Kingdom.

The community for several years had been without potable water compelling women and girls to go searching for water over long distances. The situation took girls away from school during the dry season as

they went looking for water.

The chiefs and people of Abutia-Kpota commended the Company for the

assistance at a colorful durbar to mark the happy moment. Togbe Tsali IV, Dufia of Abutia-Kpota, said he was optimistic that the facility would enhance the quality of life of people in the community

and urged others in Mr Azanu’s position to emulate his example. Mr. Joseph Amenowode, the Volta Regional Minister, appealed to stakeholders to support government in providing potable water to deprived

communities since government could not do it alone. He said “the development of the region is a collective responsibility so it is incumbent upon all to ensure that people enjoy th e basic needs of life.” 17 June 10
