An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded Adjei Boadi, a Steel Bender and Isaac Ansah, Tiller, for their part in an alleged robbery attack on the Lighthouse Christian Children’s Home, at Jamaicaso, a suburb of Aburi in the Eastern Region.
The accused persons, including one Akua Pokuwah, a trader, has been given bail to the sum of GHc20,000 with two sureties, one to be a public servant.
The accused persons pleaded guilty and would re-appear at the court on September 11.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Cletus Abadamloora told the Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that, the accused persons have been charged for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.
He said the complainant in the case is the proprietor of the Children’s home.
He said the accused person live in the same house in weija, and formed a working group as “by- day” construction labourers and attached themselves to the children home.
He said on Sunday August 25, at about 00:30 hours, four unmasked armed men invaded the orphanage, mercilessly assaulted four care-givers and a 16-year-old orphan at the home.
The prosecution said the alleged robbers stole one laptop, an Ipad, a decoder, a Galaxy phone and three other mobile phones, cash totalling about GHc1,500 and US$50.00 from their victims.
“Two of the robbers’ gang-raped one of the victims,” he said.
ASP Abadamloora said a tracking device installed in the galaxy phone gave a lead to the police to trace its victims to the household of the accused persons.
He said the third accused (Akua) was met in the room when the police raided, and she claimed to be the girlfriend of (Boadi), who owns the room.
He said a search conducted in the presence of the accused revealed the mobile phone in the room.
ASP Abadamloora told the court that the second and third accused were arrested in connection with the robbery and later on August 28, Boadi reported himself to the police to claim that he bought the phone from someone at Kasoa and was issued with a receipt.
