Abura Asebu Kwamankese district records low HIV/AIDS cases

Abura Dunkwa (C/R) July 11, GNA – The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District Assembly on Friday commended community base organisations (CBOs) in the district for working hard to reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS in the district.

According to Mr Ebow Taylor, the district HIV/AIDS focal person, the district recorded only three HIV/AIDS cases as at June this year against 38 cases during the same period last year.

Mr Taylor, who was addressing a day’s forum organised by the assembly to appraise the work of the CBO’s and map out strategies for future programmes urged the CBO’s not to rest on their oars but to intensify their sensitisation programmes to every corner of the district. He said the fight against the spread of the disease is not the responsibility of the government alone but all and sundry.

He therefore, charged participants at the forum consisting of traditional rulers, religious bodies heads of departments, stake holders and NGO’s to make financial contributions to support the Ghana Aids Commission.

The participants attributed the spread of the disease among the youth to poverty and suggested that the assembly should use part of its common fund to train the youth in in-come generating ventures such as batik, tie and dye, sewing, hair dressing to help alleviate poverty.
