Abuja Area Council elections: ‘I will not support you’ – Wike warns PDP

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, may lose his support in the forthcoming Area Council elections in Abuja.

Wike said this during a media parley in Abuja on Friday, where he pointed out that the party was fundamentally unprepared for the 2027 general elections.

He cited internal strife and impunity within the main opposition.

Wike also cited the lack of genuine commitment to opposition politics by the PDP, saying this was one of the key factors contributing to the party’s current state.

Wike noted that the PDP Governors Forum, while influential, was merely a pressure group and not an organ of the party.

The Minister said, “For you to say I want to lead the opposition party is not by mouth. You have to sacrifice a lot of things”.

He then warned that the party’s internal challenges could made him withdraw his support for the party in the upcoming Area Council elections in the FCT.

He said, “If the PDP does not keep their house in order, I will not support them for the Area Council election.”
