Abuga Pele elected unopposed

Paga (U/R), June 17, GNA – Mr Abuga Pele, sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for Chiana/Paga Constituency, has been elected unopposed to contest Election 2004 on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Mr Ben Akaara, the Constituency Secretary, who was the other contestant in the primaries, pulled out at the last minute, paving the way for Mr Pele to stand three consecutive times on the ticket of the party. Mr Pele told the GNA in an interview at Paga on Thursday that Mr Akaara withdrew in order to promote unity among the people and ensure the retention of the seat.

He said he would use his two-term experience in Parliament to solicit for development projects for the constituency saying, “now that NPP is going out of power, Professor Mills would surely fulfil the needs of the people”.

He thanked Mr Akaara and expressed gratitude to his constituents for the confidence they had reposed in him and said he would continue to offer dedicated service to the people.

The MP appealed to the rank and file of the Party to remain united and show commitment towards “pushing the President Kufuor administration back to where it came from”.

He said the economic hardships under the NPP Government were enormous, noting that, this would make it very easy for NDC to win back power “one touch” and mitigate the suffering of Ghanaians. Mr Pele urged all sympathizers of the Party to work tirelessly to ensure an NDC victory, come December 2004. 17 June 04
